Torah perspective
Speech is the vessel of the soul, and when illness seals a child's mouth, something of the child is sealed with it. The sages teach that the breath of the mouth is the breath of life itself, which is why the daily prayer asks God to open our lips. A communication board that lets a hospitalized child point to a need, a fear, a joke, restores more than convenience. It returns a voice. The Torah's account of Moses, slow of speech, is the proof that God does not wait for eloquence before listening. He hears the stammer, the gesture, the pointing finger. Every tool that widens the door of expression for the voiceless is a small act of imitating that patience.
