The Talmud warns against the flatterer who smiles while the knife turns, and here the dismissal is gentler still: not denial, but a shrug. Jewish students are told the slur is "just a flag," as if a word aimed at their identity were a harmless banner. The deeper problem is not the students who posted it. It is the adult who heard the complaint and asked why it was a problem at all. Hatred rarely needs permission. It needs silence from the people who could have named it.
